There are opportunities in all 50 states to secure funding, find loans and take advantage of incentives for developing, deploying and installing renewable energy and energy efficient technologies and systems.
Database of State Incentives for Renewables & Efficiency (DSIRE). Two other databases also provide extensive state grant and incentive information: EnergyGrants.net and DOE's List of State Energy Incentive Programs. Almost all grant, loan and incentive opportunities are covered in these databases. Only three states have additional resources not listed in these databases. For links to these programs please see: Other State Grant & Incentive Programs.
Not all states are equal when it comes to promoting renewable energy and energy efficiency. Here are rankings from EcoWatch showing where states stand in pursuit of cleantech solutions: 10 States Leading the Cleantech Revolution Chart Showing Rankings of all 50 States and the top 50 Metro Areas
The 5 states in the lead -- California, Massachusetts, Vermont, Oregon, and New York -- provide the largest number of grants and incentives, while states at the bottom of the rankings -- West Virginia, Louisiana, Wyoming, Mississippi, and North Dakota -- provide the fewest. One database (DSIRE, see below) stands out above all others in providing comprehensive information on both the federal and state grant, loan and incentive programs available in each state:
